Darkroom is a free windows text editor that is exactly like how it is named. It is a barebones text only workspace. It has no menus or extra features as far as I know it doesn’t even have a spell check option.
Basicallly it helps you to get back to the basics and to just write without any distractions by making the text you are writing the only visible thing on the screen. I have to say I really like the aesthetic of Darkroom. I like how the only thing on my screen is the terminal green text. Honestly I think it is really cool that if I would want to count the words in this review and I didn’t have any other programs I would have to count them myself. I think this program is great for writing blog posts and basically any other kind of text. I actually feel like it really does help you concentrate at the work at hand and while writing this piece so far I haven’t browsed the web or checked my email. I give the program two keyboards up! I really suggest you try it especially since it is free, also if you do not own a PC do not be disappointed because this program was actually based off of the Mac application WriteRoom found at http://www.hogbaysoftware.com/products/writeroom.
