It is a very bad problem if your wordpress update fails if you have wordpress 3.0 installed. Because WordPress automatically puts you blog into “maintenance mode” when you update plugins or your core install and redirects all traffic to a maintenance page you can be easily locked out of your own blog.
Luckily if you are stuck in maintenance mode it is easily fixed. All you have to do is open up your favorite FTP program and head on over to your wordpress install and delete the file called .maintentance. That is it, now your blog will be accessible and the .maintenance page will be banished from your online kingdom!
