How To Improve Your Productivity on A Laptop

I currently do almost all of my computing on a laptop nowadays. There are some things that laptops are better at than desktops, and vice-versa. One thing they do badly is, allowing you to work uninhibited. There are three things that you can do that to improve your productivity on a laptop.

The first thing I suggest is buying a mouse for your laptop. Touchpads generally don’t allow you to move your pointer as fast as a traditional mouse. It doesn;t matter even if it is a cheapy mouse such as the $15 Logitech v220 mouse. It may not be the most ergonomic mouse, or an insane gaming mouse, it has improved my productivity, 2 fold.

The second improvement that I recommend to do is to buy an external full size keyboard. Especially when I am writing an article for this blog, or a paper for school. I totally recommend buying a keyboard for your laptop. I bought the Microsoft Comfort Curve 2000 keyboard from Newegg.com.

The last improvement to your laptop that increases your productivity is to buy an external monitor. I have the cheapest 18 inch monitor I could find. I have my monitor set up to act as my main screen, and my laptop screen as my secondary screen. I use my main monitor to surf the web and for other tasks, while I Digsby or have itunes on my laptop screen.

I know these suggestions all seem obvious. But many people don’t realize how much their productivity is hindered by subpar laptop peripherals.
